(The brother on the thinking chair!)

Here are the 3 cubs.

So on Wednesday (6/29/11) we went downtown to do some shopping, etc. We saw some Russian dancers (Berta's daughter is one of them...Berta used to be a dancer also), then some Tlingit dancers. We went shopping, had lunch, visited the Russian Orthodox Church and a friend of LeeAnn's. Then we went out for pizza, then on a floater plane ride around Sitka. It was an amazing day. I will post pictures when we get to Juneau. We leave in just a few hours on the fast ferry to get there.

(brother)

Then we went to Fortress of the Bears. This is a bear habitat/sanctuary. The 3 cubs wandered into the habitat with their Mom so they tagged them. They later found the Mom dead and the cubs wandered back to the habitat. This will be their permanent habitat. The other two bears are brothers and are a bit older. They are also permanent at the habitat.

Tuesday and Wednesday have been busy days for us!

On Tuesday, we drove out on Saw Mill Creek Rd. to Blue Lake. This is where Sitka gets their water from.

Here is a waterfall from the drive down.

If you are looking at our blog, become a follower so I can see who's out there!
This is Steal Away - the boat we went fishing on yesterday (June 27th).

The snowy mountains...so beautiful!

This is the town of Sitka - looking in from the water.

This is an Eagle moving in for a fish.

The Eagle picked up the fish.

Jack caught a King Salmon.

Jim, Angie, Kaya and Emma on the boat.

This is the house we are staying at. This picture was taken from the boat we were heading out on to fish for the day.

This is the Artesian Well. There is a pipe that comes out and you fill up your water bottles. The water is delicious!

More pictures!

The first shows the path we will take (off to the right) on Thursday on the ferry ride to Juneau. The forests are amazing! There are so many islands out there!

The second picture is a salmon berry.

The third is Jim and Angie on our hike at Mosquito Cove.

Alaska

We are in Sitka, Alaska. It's beautiful here! It has been a bit warmer, so we have been able to be in short sleeves/tank tops. Here are some pictures from the hikes we went on today!

Jim hiked right up the side of the mountain while the rest of us took the path.

This is a 53 lb. King Salmon that some friends of Berta's caught. (We are staying at Berta's house).

We stopped on a hike at Mosquito Cove to look in some tide pools...found crabs, hermit crabs and bullhead fish.

We can see Mt. Edgecumbe from the deck of the house. This picture was taken from Harbor Mountain (our second hike of the day.)

The last picture is from the drive up Harbor Mountain.

First Tomato of 2011!

It's small, but it was tasty!
